Permits
- When is a building permit required?
A building permit is required for all new construction of any new structures or buildings and additions, or the alterations of existing buildings. A building permit is also required for fences, decks, patios, pools, any detached accessory structures (including a detached garage), other paved surfaces (including driveways), hot tubs, lawn sprinklers, waterproofing etc. Most projects also require a zoning permit. - What is a site plan/topography?
A site plan is a layout of your property showing your property lines & elevations.
Contractors
- Do sub-contractors need to register?
All contractors are required by ordinance to register with the City of Avon. The registration packet includes a $5,000. License Performance Bond to be completed on the City of Avon's Form. Your insurance agent must seal bond and provide a certificate of liabilty with the City of Avon shown as the certificate holder.
- Why do I have to use a registered contractor?
Using a registered contractor protects you as a homeowner. The City of Avon Building Department verifies the contractor has proper credentials to work in the city. This includes a bond, certificate of insurance and workers compensation insurance.
- How much is the contractor registration fee for the City of Avon and how can I pay for it?
A contractor registration packet is $75.00 and payment can be in the form of cash, check or major credit card with proper identification.
