The Field Training and Evaluation Program is a law enforcement training program that involves on-the-job training, coaching and performance assessment of new recruit police officers. The goal of the program is developing those recruit officers into law enforcement professionals capable of delivering solo patrol services in a safe, courteous, efficient and effective manner, and in accordance with department policies and procedures.
The Field Training Unit is staffed by a Commander, one (1) Sergeant, five (5) officers and two (2) Detectives. The Field Training Unit is responsible for the training and performance evaluations of new recruit police officers during the time they are on probationary status. New officers spend 12-17 weeks receiving intense, structured training and evaluation that ensures they are prepared to work in a solo assignment.
