The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a police and mental health agency collaborative. CIT officers receive training in interactions between law enforcement and those living with a mental illness that is designed to improve the way law enforcement and the community respond to people experiencing mental health crises. Crisis Intervention Teams are built on strong partnerships between law enforcement, mental health provider agencies and individuals and families affected by mental illness.
The Avon Police Department CIT currently consists of a Lieutenant who is the CIT Coordinator and Supervisors, Officers and Detectives who are trained in crisis intervention. It is the goal of the department to have all officers eventually trained in crisis intervention.
