Avon Tree Commission

Overview

The Tree Commission of the city of Avon was established by Ordinance No. 70-21, and consists of 7 members, all of whom are Avon residents, and a certified arborist.

Purpose

The function of the Tree Commission is to study, advise and encourage the adoption and then implementation of a comprehensive plan for the proper planting of new and replacement trees and maintaining the health of existing trees in the urban forest.  The Tree Commission will also provide resource materials and information pertaining to proper tree selection and care.


SAVE THE DATE:   Nov. 5, 2022   ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION 

While Arbor Day is normally celebrated in April, the City of Avon has designated the first Saturday in November as its Arbor Day.  November was chosen because fall is the best time to plant trees.

Lorain County Soil & Water Conservation District Big Tree Contest Winner

The City of Avon recently won 1st Place in the Lorain County SWCD 2022 Big Tree Contest!  Our American Beech Tree measured a circumference of 119 inches.  This news was announced at the SWCD Annual Meeting on September 10, 2022.  plaque


Monarch Waystation Recognized

The City of Avon, specifically at the Cahoon House, 2940 Stoney Ridge Road, was recognized as a Monarch Waystation in September of 2022!   Monarch Waystations provide milkweeds, nectar plants, and shelter for monarchs throughout their annual cycle of reproduction and migration.
